Christian Perspective in the Coronavirus Pandemic
Pandemic is a scary word. So is coronavirus. Public health predictions for this worldwide disease are stark. One US political leader even said, “civilization is at risk.”

Pandemic is a scary word. So is coronavirus. Public health predictions for this worldwide disease are stark. One US political leader even said, “civilization is at risk.”

Clearly this public health situation is serious.

But there is also perspective:

• Humanity has survived many plagues, some more virulent and deadly than what is predicted for COVID-19.
• Diseases, as awful as they are, as much suffering as they cause, are not the greatest threat to civilization, much less humanity – think war, famine, wrong moral choices.
• Pandemic pandemonium is more a function of social psychology than actual physical endangerment.

And most of all, this too shall pass. The coronavirus will run its course and it will disappear.

“(God) has…set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end…everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it” (Ecclesiastes 3:10, 14).

Perspective informs preparedness and reduces fear.
